DANIEL B MARSHALL MASTER ENGRAVER
I OWN A WINCHESTER MODEL 12 SUPER PIGON MADE IN 1921. IT IS BEAUTIFULY ENGRAVED IN 12-5 WINCHESTER FORM WITH LOTS OF GOLD INLAY. THE GUN IS SIGNED DANIEL B MARSHALL AND I WOLD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HIM AND ALS SEE SOME OF HIS OTHER WORK OF THE TIME. DID HE WORK FOR WINCHESTER? OR WAS HE ON HIS OWN. THANKS

Hello Tom.
Glad you are enjoying the Model 12. Great guns.
I doubt that the engraver worked for Winchester, especially in 1921.
At that time most factory engraver did not sign their work.
Also, very few Grade 5's came from the factory with gold inlay.
Most of the Grade 5's with gold were done after WW2 by non-factory engravers. I did quite a few myself.
The engraver who probably did the most Model 12's with gold was Angelo Bee.
I expect our historian Bob Evans can chime in on this and give you more information on the engraver of your gun.
Best regard, John.

I did a quick look in our database and I don't see any info on that engraver. The information on early engravers is difficult to come by.
Sorry.

I suggest that you contact Robert Evans. Robert is the historian for the guild. He has info on hundreds of engravers going back many years. You will find him listed in the professional engravers list on this site.

Tom,
I think Bob Evans is out of town for a while so I woldn't expect a quick response. I don't know if he will have much to offer you however. I pretty much have the names he has from the database. He just has more information related to them. The only thing he might have is something not written on this person.
