Belino Engraving
Just received the Engraver's Newsletter July-Aug-Sept. 2006, and enjoyed reading Mike Dubber's article on Italian Engraver's Studios. I wonder if someone could give us how to correctly sharpen a Belino handtool..like the Italian engraver's use.

Hi JJ
When I do my game scenes and use "dots" to do a Bulino style my graver is totally different then my "Banknote" gravers. I'm not concerned with controlling a cut line but just poking at an angle. I use a 70 degree "V" tool which has no belly or heel with a 50 degree face angle. I also have this mounted in a pencil like handle rather than the usual hand graver style. I find it quicker and easier to do my poking with this and I ride the graver on my right thumbnail to help guide it along as I poke my patterns.
Guess I'm not Italian.

Thank you very much for your response. I made a chisel with your dimensions..it works very nice, and cuts very nice. I think this tool should be called the Rabeno Bulino Pick.

Keep up the good work.
