Floorplate with Meier Floorplate Lever Question
This is certainly a bit of a newbie question. I have a new project that involves a Mouser floorplate and a Meier floorplate lever. The lever is something I have never seen before but it something that is, to my understanding, to be considered "old school". The presence of the lever could certainly be considered an "obstacle" as it limits what can be done with the floorplate. Is there a proper way to approach this? The owner does not want animals or game scenes of any sort so I am going to keep the design very conservative - gold inlay border and scroll. Should I attempt to include the lever in the design or ignore it altogether by engraving under it. Just wondering if there was some sort of traditional and proper approach to this unusual floorplate accessory. Thanks in advance.

Well, here's the floor plate with lever. Finally finished....it's the last piece for a custom rifle I've been working on and my first floor plate. The lever sure presented me with an interesting challenge but I think it came out ok.

I would like to thank both Lee Griffiths and Ron Nott for their input on this.

hi Chris .. this is the first time I ever saw a floor plate with a lever on it, but I think you did an excellent job on laying out the design for this type of floor plate and it looks like the time you spent in my shop payed off ,the engraving on this floor plate is just fantastic ,it has good flow and nice round scrolls , your shading I think is just fine , be sure to stop by soon for more lessons on engraving .. thanks for showing . ron p.

Chris,
Very nice job! You handled the issue with the release lever well. That can be a tough job!
Nice...

Thanks guys. A thumbs up is always greatly appreciated....especially when it comes from the gurus!!!

Well, just finished moving into the country (if I wasn't there already). I think 5 cars went by my house all day!!!

Anyway, wanted to say thanks.

Hey Ron, all that critique is paying off my friend. I'll see you soon.

Hi folks,

I've got a much better photo here with the floorplate and the guard together.

Hi Lee,

I've got the game-plan from the gun maker here. This rifle won't be in Reno this year but will be one of three rifles he will be bringing next year for consideration in the ACGG for full membership.

Without FEGA, this forum and the wonderful members who never cease to inspire...this would not have been possible. I can not express my gratitude enough. I would also like to mention that Ron Smith's books have been an incredible and essential resource.
