Gettin started
I like restoring old double guns of my own, however when I need some engraving work done I send out. Work like recutting of letters, numbers and cleaning out original engraving after gun has been polished. I have a interest in learning this type of work. Where do I start?

Hello TS.
It would be a help if we knew where you were located.
What State and town are you near, please?

Get the "Art of Engraving" by James Meek. Available from most engraving supply houses. This is the best start. I will tell yo that restoring engraving and lettering can be tricky. Even experienced engravers can find it more difficult than doing their own work. On the other hand, if you started out learning engraving to restore it might come much easier.

TS, the reason I asked where you were located is to figure out if I knew any engraving instructors close to you. I don't, off hand.
FEGA has a member's list and if you are a member you might get it and try calling listed members in your area to see if they could be of some help.
Of course, Rex is right on with Meek's and Ron Smith's books.
One of the best teachers on the Eastern side of the country is
JJ, who answered your other post.
