Hello from New Zealand
Hi Everyone

Thank you all for those kind words about the 25th anniversary logo.

I had better introduce myself to you all. I’m 48 years old (I was 47 yesterday!!!) I’m married with grown up kids that have all flown the nest. I live in Christchurch New Zealand and have a very small signwriting business called Award Signs Ltd. I’ve been self employed for about 22/23 years now and have employed my daughter, Rebecca, for the last 10 years.

I took up engraving about the middle of last year and joined FEGA at the end of last year. I’m really enjoying the engraving side of things as most of my day job is computer orientated, so to get back to hand skills is a refreshing change. John Barraclough approached me last year through the knife network forum and we have become firm friends ever since. He is teaching me some of the subtleties of engraving.

I have been practicing with a Classic Lindsay Airgraver and have purchased various books, DVD’s and castings from FEGA. All of which are worth their weight in gold.

I’ll post a few pictures in the next few days of a home made knife I’ve just finished engraving so you can see what stage I’m at.

I do have one or two suggestions that maybe helpful to FEGA and its members.

1. I can mock up a digital version of the FEGA logo for you in Photoshop. Perhaps in landscape and portrait? Maybe with the help of Marty Rabeno as it worked really well with the 25th logo.

2. In the members’ page, would it be worthwhile having both logos in a large size (high resolution) for members to access and download so that they can use them on letterheads, business cards etc.

3. Why not look at getting the “new look” logos printed in bumper sticker form and post one of each out to all the members in the next engraver magazine. You could also keep a few in stock so that if members wanted an extra one they could purchase them for a couple of bucks each (or whatever it costs) You could get these stickers printed pretty cheaply these days on digital printers and they would be picture perfect. A lot of signwriting shops have them these days and the rates are very reasonable.

Anyway that is my two cents worth and I’ll look forward to talking to you all in the future.

Best regards
Andrew Biggs

Andrew.
A belated Happy Birthday!
I would love to have you work on the FEGA logos. Our “main” logo is trademarked and will have to remain our original logo but we could use an ‘alternate” logo for those times when the other doesn’t work. The main logo could also use some “detailing” to sharpen it up a bit.

We already discussed putting in a members “download” area. We will have the logos as well as some other things in the future like FEGA wallpaper and possibly other things. We are working on that right now.

The “bumper sticker” idea is a good one. I’ll look into that. My thoughts would be something in an oval, perhaps 4” X 6” so it could be used on a window as well as a bumper.

Once again, thanks so much for the fine work on the 25th logo. Looking forward to seeing some of your work!

For those of you unfamiliar with Andrew's work take a gander at the knife network forum under fine embellishment. He has a picture of of a knife he engraved with nice scroll and a scene with rangers. It's downright disturbing and unfair that one who has been at this less than a year can turn out something so wonderful. Way to go Andrew. Very well done.

Yea Lee, kinda like a fellow I heard of from Idaho a few years ago, just jumped right in! Andrew, very nice, cabbage and all!!

PS...Andrew, don't let my sense of humor (or lack thereof) offend. I wasn't making a comment on your work with the "cabbage" comment. Hopefully you understood. Regards,

Sam

Hi Sam

Heck no. No offence taken at all. I presumed you were refereing to the foliage. The reason I havn't posted the photos is that I've been really busy so hopefully I can get it done tonight.

Best regards
Andrew

Actually I was just joking about comments made on the knife forum.
