| There was a post on another forum regarding an L C Smith shotgun. Now I have another question on these shotguns for the firearms experts. I was in a local gun shop the other day and they had 2 LC Smith shotguns with Damscus barrels. Of course they are used and the aside from the finish on the metals portions needing rework (and of course engraving), the wood needs to be refinished (but is usable). What's a reasonable price for an LC Smith Shotgun in operable but not pretty condition? Are these good for engraving or should one stay clear of them? I thought I saw one on someone's table in Reno? Thanks. |

| Hello Kevin, First thing about those Smiths that should concern you is the barrels. Damascus is a big negative. Second in your choice of a project gun is the internal condition of the bores. For a project gun or any time you are purchasing any gun the bores are your first consideration, if they are dark or pitted. Forget it. Next in choosing a project gun always try to choose a gun that has a good resale value, these days browning citori's and Beretta over/unders and the like are going well on the market, 20 guages are my first love. | Kevin What Ed said is true about picking a gun to engrave as a sample piece and hopefully eventually sell. Be very carefull with many of the newer shotguns on the market as the receivers are way too hard to engrave. The Beretta's are one of them. The Browning citori's do cut nicely though. |
