acid etching
Is anyone out there knowledgable about the use of acid etching for backgroung removal?

Hello Lee,
One or two people that I know could be of help are Bob Swartley and also Jim Blair.
Both of these gentlemen have some skill with acid, I believe.
I'm sure that you have contacted the Cronite Co.??? www.cronite.com
They have the supplies and some very good handouts on the subject.
I'm still enjoying studying your great work on the gun you did in combination with Sam Welch for the benefit of the Guild.
Thank you.
Hope these couple of ideas are some help.
Best regards, John.

Hi Lee

From memory Barry Lee Hands showed some work on this forum and the Knife Network Forum where he acid etched the backgrounds out. He posted a few photos of the process around 2-4 months ago. I believe that Marcus Hunt also uses that technique for removing backgrounds.

Best regards

Hello Mr. Griffiths,

New to site and just a hobbyist. I've wondered if there was a method that the pro's used so your question hit home. I've used aqua regia (may be to aggressive for delicate work)with parrafin film as the resist on some knife blades. The film once applied (thats the hard part)cuts easy and peels out clean. Keep brushing the acid and exposed steel gently with a acid brush and watch for to much heating. This may lift your resist.
