| Good morning Jon. I find the carbide gravers as sold by Ngraver to work the best for me. I put about a 65 degree face on them and a very small heel of about 7 or 8 degrees. Hard metal as found on some gun parts will be tough on tools no matter what you use. Just a fact of life. Good luck. S |

| Jon, I agree with Sam that Ngraver carbides work really well. Also GRS has just come out with a graver called CMax that I have found really darn tough. But again, like Sam says, if you get a gun with super hard metal nothing in the world seems to work in fact the Momax may work better as they aren't as brittle. If the Momax are working well for you now, stay with them but don't be afraid to try others as well. For a lot of my "general" engraving I just use high speed steel gravers as they are cheap and sharpen quickly. Hope that helps, Rex |

| Hello Jon, Like both Sam and Rex said, Momax cobalt M-42 works well on the average gun. Ngraver also has a good grade of M-42 at a decent price. On really hard metal go to the steep face that Sam mentioned and try a short parallel heel. I find it helps to also increase the width of the bottom to 110 degrees rather than a “standard” 90. These things, combined with a short parallel heel, a steep face and a wider bottom angle provides much better support for the point. Best regards. John. |
