graver configuration for 24K gold engraving.
What is considered the best graver configuration for engraving on gold? I am using a carbide square graver with a 60 deg. face, a 110 deg belley and a 20 deg heal. It works but has a tendancy to dive on me and is difficult to control.

Hi Jerry.
I also mostly use carbide because the chips don't stick to it.
Normally, I use a 90 V, 50 face and 15 heel.
Sometimes I use a 70 degree V with the rest the same.
For bulino picks on gold I use a 70 V with no heel.
My guess is that the graver is diving on you due to just the difference in the very soft gold.
It takes a very light touch and some practice to cut 24K.
What you are using should work though it would not be my first choice.
Best of luck, John.

I'll try that. Thanks John.
