Mark.
Ngraver scroll templates, especially the " backbone " ones are very good.
Everyone should learn to draw their scrolls. But these are useful in the learning stages to train your eye. Later they are very helpful to lay over an area to decide on different scroll placement and also to check your hand drawn scrolls for roundness.
For use on firearms where there are parts sticking up above the surface I cut them into long strips. This makes it much easier to get close up to these projections.
Many of my ex- students found them a great help as a set of
" Training Wheels "
Hope this is some help, best of luck with your engraving.

Hi Mark

Ditto to what John just said. Yes the scroll templates are great. I try to draw my scrolls by hand first then run the template over the top to give it a quick check and make any adjustments. Us learners need all the help we can get and it's just another thing to add to the engravers clever bag of tricks.
