Weldon officially began his engraving apprenticeship in 1979 at the age of 17, studying with his father, Master Engraver W.E. "Big Bill" Lister, Sr. "Apprenticing with a master engraver took years off the huge learning curve and I whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone (if at all possible) who has the desire to be an engraver", states Weldon.
During the summer of 2006 Weldon also had the opportunity to study with Phillipe Griffnee at the Grand Masters class held at the GRS factory in Emporia, Kansas. "GRS has a fully equipped training facility and they are also great folks; the "06 Grand Master's definitely isn't going to be my last class at GRS states Weldon"!
Again, in 2007, Weldon had the opportunity to attend the Grand Master's program, this time studying with Winston Churchill. "What an honor it was to be able to study with Winston" says Weldon!
A professional firefighter for over three decades, Weldon retired from the San Antonio Fire Department in May of 2012 and is now engraving full-time.
Weldon uses the "old school" hammer & chisel method and is well versed in a number of traditional styles including; American/ Nimschke, black forest deep relief, fine German and English scrolls. In addition to bulino scenes he does raised relief figures, game scenes and portraits in both steel and precious metal inlays/overlays.
Weldon is ****NOT**** accepting commissions at this time. Please contact him via email or phone. Thanks
