Seminars

FEGA presents seminars under the guidance of qualified engravers. These workshops are held in conjunction with the Annual Exhibition in Reno , and cover specific topics. The instructors are FEGA members and others, generously sharing information acquired from decades of hands on experience. The seminars are open to all, and are available on video or DVD for those unable to attend in person.

Engraving classes

While the guild does not endorse any school, many of our members teach classes at a variety of times and locations across the country. Classes range from beginning through advanced levels, and cover many techniques of firearms engraving. A detailed list of classes is available.

Videotapes, books, castings

FEGA publishes a variety of videos (VHS tapes and DVD's) and books about engraving and engravers. Also, castings of beautifully engraved firearms can be purchased for study and decoration. These items are available to the public at reasonable prices.

In addition, FEGA publishes the “Engraver,” a quarterly magazine with information about events, how-to’s, photographs of engraving, guild activities, and general engraving information. All members receive a subscription.

Historical Information

FEGA retains a historical database with a wealth of information about engravers and engraving. The guild handles hundreds of requests for information - for help identifying the engraver of a particular piece, or more information about a specific engraver. This service is currently free to individuals.

Annual Exhibition

Since 1980, the annual meetings have grown and developed.

The Firearms Engravers and Gunmakers Exhibition is held annually in Reno , Nevada in January. A unique partnership with the American Custom Gunmakers Guild (ACGG), this three-day exhibition has become known as "The Greatest Assembly of Custom Guns and Engraving in America ."

Dozens of FEGA members display their finest work, participate in the annual business meeting and educational seminars, and promote the guild and firearms engraving. The FEGA volunteers are the members whose assistance makes it all possible. For over two decades, the response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive, with attendance at record levels each year.

FEGA distributes information about the guild and gun engraving with participation at various shows during the year. Individual members or groups of members also display their work at a variety of shows across the country.

Certification

FEGA has established a set of standards to insure clients receive a basic level of firearms engraving skills. The list of FEGA Masters (formally Certified Professional) is available on request.
Requirements for certification are available - click here (an Adobe PDF file).

Awards

An awards program has developed over the years, and is one of many highlights of the annual exhibition. The "Engravers Choice Award," open to exhibiting members, carries a special significance. Member engravers in attendance judge the entries – a "jury by peers."

Other awards and educational scholarships are sponsored by industry manufacturers as part of the exhibition.

Since their inception, the awards program has encouraged engravers, and inspired levels of excellence in the art of firearms engraving barely imagined three decades ago.
