I was born and raised in Abilene, Texas. I went to Abilene Christian University and got a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1984. While in college I apprenticed as a sign painter for Ellison Edwards Sign Co. I had originally intended on getting a Masters in Fine Arts and teaching art in college but decided I wanted to stay in the sign business. As a graphic designer I became aware of scroll designs used in engravings. I bought James B. Meek's "The Art of Engraving". Whenever I would look through that book I was always amazed at how engravers could do such intricate work. The vinyl cutting computer came along in the late 80's and changed the sign business in a way that made me want to look for another artistic endeavor. As a lifelong firearms enthusiast, I couldn't help but be intrigued by the beautiful engraving seen on many weapons. I began to study engraving and eventually honed my skills enough to be marketable. In 2002 I decided I wanted to engrave full time. As an artist I have always studied style and have a very eclectic approach to engraving design. Styles from the 1800's are my favorite but I also enjoy theme projects and I love working with customer's ideas. I engrave firearms, motorcycles, watches, jewelry, and all kinds of odd things. In 2015 I was awarded the FEGA Master Engraver certification. I also teach all levels of engraving privately and at several schools. I am on staff as an adjunct professor at the Paris Junior College, Paris, Texas, where I teach engraving in their jewelry department.
