Engraver article winners

Issue #77 Jan/Feb/March 2008

Tira Mitchell: Pilgrimage to Emporia; A very human and inspirational article about going to the Grand Masters and the excitement of learning and sharing with Winston Churchill and Ken Hunt.

Issue #78 April/May/June 2008

Tim Adlam: Rejuvenating the Spirit; An excellent article about something we seldom talk about……. what inspires and motivates us. A lesson in taking time to smell the roses and enjoy life so that we can bring it back to the engraving bench.

Issue # 78 & 79

Weldon Lister: Sculptured Scroll, Part 1 & 2. Excellent articles with photos on how to create sculptured scroll and the tools and techniques involved. A must for anyone wanting to use the punch techniques.

Issue #78 Jul/Aug/Sept 2008

Ron Smith: Layout and Design. A fabulous article on how to get thinking about shotgun layouts and the thoughts behind the design. Complete with a genuine Ron Smith (no thumb) drawing which in itself is pretty incredible.

Issue #79 Oct/Nov/Dec 2008

Martin Strolz: Tradition and Technology. A great article with a wonderful insight into the engraving school in Steyr, Austria. The richness, history and depth of the European engraving is much easier to understand once you have read this article.

Topic: Who is this engraver?  Number of Responses: 3

I recently bought an engraved Colt Single Action made in 1959. The engravers mark is on the bottom of the frame, and appear to be the initials MVS. Can anyone tell me who it is? Here is the mark:

I also recently bought this S&W 38 Target Masterpiece made in 1955. I cannot find an engravers mark on it anywhere. Can anyone make a guess as to who it might be by the style of the engraving. The pictures don't show it well, but the engraving is very detailed and intricate, and consists of scroll and flowers.

Topic: FLYING TO RENO.  Number of Responses: 0

Security may be extra concerned and strict if you are flying with display guns during the week of the inauguration.
It may be a slight help if you pack some FEGA/ ACGG literature in the case with the guns to show the Inspector that you are legit.
Be sure to also bring your Guild membership card with you.
Last week I went to LAX to make sure my gun cases were OK with security, no problem.
But there were extra layers of security already in place.
Just a thought.

Have a safe flight or drive. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Hi new to the board.
Really looking for some information on how to start. I would like to start engraving on nickel silver items.
Would anyone recommend some good starter books or DVDs ?.
Had a go at wood carving in the past but not engraving so really looking for basic stuff to start with.

Thanks Gary
