Topic: New Forum and web site  Number of Responses: 2

I thought I would pass on the info that there is another engraving forum and darn great web site out there.
www.igraver.com.
Sam Alfano has put together a great site with how-to info, lots of interesting stuff and now has added an engraving forum as well. It is open to hand engraving of all kinds.
Be sure to check it out!

Topic: An engraver with the initials (P.A.H.) ???  Number of Responses: 2

Would anyone know an engraver with the initials "P.A.H."? I recently bought an Ithaca Model 37 engraved with a similar no.1 pattern of the early 1970's offered by Ithaca. I am trying to determine if the gun was factory engraved or privately engraved. The Ithaca co. has recently started doing business once again but doesn't trace the history of guns by serial numbers like the previous Ithaca co.. Any info anyone has would be appreciated.

Topic: K80 receiver hardness  Number of Responses: 0

I'm considering purchasing a K80 for my personal sporting clays shooting iron and would of course would like to engrave it. I talked with a Krieghoff dealer and he said even the blued receiver is extremely hard. I have engraved Dakota Arms rifles and Kolar and Ruger red label stainless shotguns without any trouble at all - cut like butter with Lindsay's carbalt graver. Does anyone have any experience with the K80's hardness? Thanks

Topic: Engraver with initials P.A.H.  Number of Responses: 1

Hi,

I tried to post a response to your question but couldn't, don't know why??
I knew an engraver named Paul Harris. I'm not sure he is the engraver you are inquiring about but the initials are pretty close (not sure about the middle initial). The Paul Harris I knew was from around San Antonio Texas and was in that locale for some time. His dad was a Baptist pastor & was the principal at the private school I attended. Pauls dad Buford Harris became aquainted with my dad & would visit him when he (my dad) worked with Frank Hendricks inthe late '60's. Pauls father became interested in engraving and learned the art at Hendricks' shop in San Antonio (with the help of Frank & my dad). Paul (somewhat older than I am) must have learned initially from his dad & then from Hendricks as well. This would have been in the early to mid '70's. I know that Paul Harris did quite a bit of work for Kleinguenther in the early days when it was operated by Mr. Kleinguenther in Seguin (before KDF). I do not know where Paul Harris is now but I believe he moved away from the San Antonio area some time back. I did a google search & found nothing.

Topic: Looking for books that don't cost a fortune  Number of Responses: 1

I am looking for books authored by J. M. Bergling in good condition.

Any and all titles but in particular those dealing with ornamental lettering are what I'm after right now with the exception of Ornamental Designs and Illustrations which I just bought. Thanks!

Topic: Hospital stay for Ron Nott.  Number of Responses: 4

Ron Nott was found to need a heart stint during a regular medical examination.
The stint was put in and Ron is doing well.
I'm sure he would like to see some good wishes posted on the forum when he gets out of hospital in a couple of days.
I wish you a speedy and complete recovery Ron and look forward to visiting with you in Reno.
Take care my friend, John.

Topic: Professional's Work Habits  Number of Responses: 4

This question is for the professionals (not a category I will ever fit.)

I believe that asking y'all how many hours a week you work would be impolite; therefore, I would like to know if you keep regular hours like an office worker, or work only when you are inspired, or however you do it.

I will understand if nobody wants to talk about it. I will volunteer that when I worked as a computer programmer I enjoyed it so much that I found it difficult to stop to take care of family obligations. At around 14 or 15 hours straight, I would get so hungry I couldn't continue without food.

I have learned to engrave in my maturity and find myself limited both by my eyesight and physical endurance.

I hope somebody will share.

Thank you,

Lester

Topic: About heavy-duty turntable base GRS...  Number of Responses: 3

I have a question about. This base is normally used with GRS Low profile vise. Could I use this base with GRS standard block? Are there any problems? I like standard block more than low profile vise.
Many thanks.
