Topic: Magnablock lubrication?  Number of Responses: 4

Hi all. I'm a recent Trinidad engraving class student and finally got my brand new GRS equipment this week. I've found an air leak in my GraverMax I need to fix so my compressor doesn't keep kicking in, but the really sticky problem I'm having is my Magnablock. It doesn't swivel smoothly. I loosened up the tension, but as I engrave it jumps as it swivels. Quite frustrating. The literature gives no advice on the matter and the office is closed for the weekend. Anyone on line who could give me advice? Thanks. Kate

Topic: Coating other than Blueing  Number of Responses: 3

After completing the engraving, if blue (or brown) is not going to be aplied what is a good coating to put on the work so it will not rust? I see lots of pictures of engraving that is not blued and not stainless. Even though I am working on practice plates, I still want to protect them.

I am new to engraving and looking at all of my options for pneumatic engravers. I have been looking at GRS tools and I have also seen Lindsay's tools. Could someone that has used Steve's palm control engraver give me their oppinion on it? Is it really worth the extra money? Thanks in advance for you time. Would like to say too, that I really enjoy this sight and do intend on becoming a member soon.

Respectfully,
Dan Grubaugh

Topic: Metal carving and sculpture  Number of Responses: 4

Hi Everyone

I was wondering if you could please help me out.

I’m shortly going to start engraving the detonators/fences of the 12 gauge hammer gun action I’m working on. They are going to have a couple of New Zealand native birds on them which I was intending to carve/sculpture in relief. (Well that’s the plan anyway. How successful it will be is another matter)

I was wondering what sort of scrapers and tools you guys (and ladies) use for doing this kind of work? Also what do you make the tools out of?

If possible (and this is a really big ask) could you perhaps accompany any descriptions with a drawing/photo of the tool.

Anything you can tell or show me would be much appreciated.

Best regards
Andrew Biggs

Topic: Lubricating graver adapters  Number of Responses: 5

I live in a fairly dry area and the o-rings on the GRS quick change adapters get dry and make it difficult to insert and remove from the handpiece. Botht the adapters and handpiece are clean. Would a light lithium grease be suitable for lubricating the o-rings? I know it won't have any adverse affects on the o-ring itself. I don't want it to affect the handpiece operation.

Topic: Ben Shostle  Number of Responses: 3

I just received the following email about our past founding member/president and friend Ben Shostle..

It is with great sadness that I am reporting the death of Ben Shostle last night. He had been hospitalized with a terminal illness these past few weeks and had been fighting cancer for several years.

I could not find many E-mail addresses as Ben had been unable to use the computer since blindness struck him in 2000.

He was a great guy who will be missed by his many friends and family.

Respectfully, John D. Baker (friend and co-worker)

I will always remeber Bens friendship and fatherly advice over many years. I will miss him

Has any one engraved rifle scopes? How about gold line inlay into the scope? What are the pit falls?

Thanks
